MORNING FILE

Good morning, Mr. President.

Day one of a new daily section. The format is short. The standard is the same on both sides of the aisle. The cadence is on the news cycle, not on us. There is no commitment to a daily file. There is a commitment to a file when the news has earned one. Lately, the news has been earning one every morning. We did not pick that pace. The President picks that pace. We are noting it. From the people who feed from the bottom.

Good morning, Mr. President.

Good morning Mr. President. For your files.

Today's file is the announcement of the file.

This is the launch of a new daily section of Spotlight Dispatch called *45零号47.* Every morning the news has earned one — which, lately, has been every morning — we will deliver you a short note. It will be addressed to you. It will land at *spotlightdispatch.com/45047* whether you read it or not.

The piece you are now reading is file number one. The two files that ship alongside it, on day one of this section, are the proof of the format.

File two — at */dear-white-house-drug-prices* — is a fact-check of your claim that the United States now has *the lowest drug prices anywhere in the world,* delivered twice in the last week, including yesterday from the podium at the White House Mother's Day event for bereaved mothers. Some of what you said is true. Some of it is not. We wrote down which is which.

File three — at */ilhan-omar-refused* — is a fact-check of a sitting Democratic member of Congress who, this week, declined to cooperate with a Minnesota state committee investigating one of the largest pandemic-era frauds prosecuted in American history. The committee voted to subpoena her. The vote fell short of the two-thirds required. The investigation continues. We wrote that down too.

That is the first morning. The standard does not change between the two pieces.

Some files in this section will land on people you would like to see in print. Some will land on people you would not. The ones you like, your instinct will be to amplify. The ones you do not, your instinct will be to ignore. Either is fine. Both are data. Over a week, the mix says what the bipartisan-honesty brand says — that the standard is the same regardless of which side of the aisle the receipts cut.

There is no commitment to a daily file. There is a commitment to a file when the news has earned one. Lately, the news has been earning one every morning. We did not pick that pace. The President picks that pace. We are noting it.

The first three files are live. Tomorrow's file is whoever earns it.

Mr. President — your move.
