The pair have not performed together publicly since the original 2008 release. Industry sources describe the project as 'real' and 'happening.'

LOS ANGELES — Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are in the early stages of reuniting for a live performance of "Boats and Hoes," the landmark recording originally produced under the Prestige Worldwide banner in 2008, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.
The performance, which has not been publicly announced, is described by sources as a full re-enactment of the original production, including choreography. One person familiar with the project said a venue has been discussed but not confirmed. A second source said the timeline is "soon."
Representatives for both Ferrell and Reilly declined to comment.

The original 2008 Prestige Worldwide production remains one of the most studied works in independent film.
The original "Boats and Hoes" debuted as part of the Prestige Worldwide promotional reel and has since accumulated a substantial cultural following. Critics at the time were largely unaware of it. That has changed.
"There is a real argument that it was misclassified on release," said one entertainment industry analyst who asked not to be named. "What looked like a comedy bit in 2008 looks considerably different now."
The reunion would mark the first time Ferrell and Reilly have publicly performed the work together since its original production. Both have spoken warmly of the project in separate interviews over the years, though neither has indicated plans to revisit it until now.

Industry analysts have described the original recording as 'ahead of its time.'
Prestige Worldwide, the entertainment company founded by the pair's characters in the film, has no active corporate registration. Sources say this is not considered an obstacle.
No setlist beyond "Boats and Hoes" has been confirmed. One source, when asked if additional material was planned, said only: "That's the one people want."
What They Left Out
A third source, reached late Thursday, said the reunion originated from a conversation at a private event several months ago in which both men reportedly performed an impromptu rendition for a small group.
"It went well," the source said. "Better than expected. That's when it became a real conversation."
The source added that at least one major streaming platform has expressed interest in documenting the performance, though no deal has been signed.
Boats. Hoes. Coming soon.
And now you know... what they left out.
